No more elections

Let's not have elections anymore. No one takes the results seriously, and if you lose, then it must have been rigged! I wrote about this before, this phenomenon that when ten million votes are cast and .1 percent of people has a problem, it gives the opposition ten thousand instances of "voter fraud" to blather on and on about. This story about the UN confirming the legitimacy of elections is appalling because the Sunni's are protesting. They're protesting because they're backwards idiots. The UN clearly knows that the election was fair, but it doesn't matter. The anti-americans just will not give credibility to any election that they don't win. When President Bush won the second time, people like Susan Sarandon, Barack Obama, and Jesse Jackson clung to claims of the sweeping voter fraud and disenfranchisement of their side. Keep crying bitches, do you know the story, the Little Boy Who Cried Wolf?

US gets fucked by FIFA

Ok so there is eight groups. You would think the top 8 teams get their own group right? NOPE. The US is the 8th ranked team and is in the same group as the number 2 ranked team in the world, the Czech Republic, the 12th ranked team, Italy, and Ghana which is 50th, but received this year's award for "biggest mover in the rankings". So even the low man on the totem pole is a spoiler candidate.

Host Germany got the 21st, 22nd, and 37th ranked teams in their bracket. They host the tournament by the way. And they accuse the US of conspiracies... Matter of fact, all the european teams seemed to get lucky, except for the sacrificial lambs in the US bracket. England got coupled up with the 14th, 30th, and 50th ranked teams (tied for 50th with Ghana.) Spain got the 28th, 33rd, and 40th ranked teams in their bracket. France got the 28th, 29th, and 35th ranked teams in their bracket. So that's awesome. The US has to beat out a 12 and a 2 to make it out of round robin play, while these douche bag European teams have to beat out teams ranked like 30th in the world.

My favorite bracket is the Netherlands and Argentina, ranked 3rd and 4th in the world, who play with a 42 and a 47.

Basically putting 3 out of the top 12 teams in the same bracket would be like statistically having half of the brackets. Awesome. Well, good luck anyway good ol' USA.

Oh and for the Canadian readers, you're in bracket "staying at home" and you rank 84th in the world right between the Narnians and the Special Olympics All-Stars.

Secret searches without warrants? How could the President come out and unapologetically defend this stupid shit. Why don't we just use the constitution for toilet paper? Seriously, because this is INDEFENSIBLE!!! The constitution is about as specific as possible that this is wrong as hell. I think it is an impeachable offense if you ask me. Holy shit I can't believe it. Can someone explain to me how you could defend this practice? To get terrorists? Well why don't we set-up surveillance cameras in all of our homes and force everyone to wear a tracking chip? I guarantee we can cut crime/terrorism to almost nil if we take some very simple steps. The thing is though, that is not a free society.

I can't ever vote for someone who condones this practice. It is fucking shameful. I want to thank the press in this country for letting us know despite the President saying it harmed efforts to fight terrorism. May 5th, 1990? Why is that day so significant? It's not. The title is the 5-5-90 rule that I learned about from my mother, who had learned from her DI.

5% of you are good, 5% of you are bad, and 90% of you are sheep. This is the rule and I think I might be inclined to agree with the rule. Reading about the Age of Enlightenment always brings up Hobbes and Locke and their arguments about the nature of society and our natural state. Well our natural state is that there will be few genuinely good people, few genuinely bad people, and whoever can convince the other 90% better determines how the society goes. As time has passed, good has won over evil, and IMHO, it will continue to do so. Good just works better. Compassion, cooperation, chocolate milk, and peace will always thrive because good works better.

And because of this, I believe that we don't need to constrict ourselves as a society. Freedom is the best choice because good will win over bad. Of course, absolute freedom is a contradiction because one's freedoms will always intrude upon others, but we must try and allow all the maximum amount of freedoms we can.

I think visually so I imagine freedom as spaces on a chess board. There is a finite amount of spaces before it becomes other pieces' spaces. I'm just saying let's not control and constrict squares on the chess board for the sake of equality -- just let the pieces work it all out themselves. Will people take advantage of each other? Yeah. Will the people who took advantage eventually lose their advantage? Yes. Good will win over bad. Naturally. I'm sure of it.

You could be thinking that I believe in a pinata mentality. Let the kid who collects the most candy keep the most. Well for the most part, that is capitalism. Another analogy would that capitalism is a horse. I am just talking about a bridle here people, NOT a carriage strapped to its back.

None of this is coherent probably. Oh well.

Laws and Tyranny

One way of being tyrannical is to create laws that you know everyone breaks, that way you could pick them up at any time if you needed to.

In the U.S., we have so many god damn laws, it pisses me off. I will be turning 21 in 3 months and I will be "able" to drink. I was reading some statistics and 80% of all high school seniors have consumed alcohol and 64% have become drunk. That is high school seniors! I bet it is 95% by the time they are actually 21. What a good law that is then! Let's have a law that nobody obeys, but still could be punished for.

Over 60% of people have smoked marijuana in this country. How many people have driven drunk? 66% of youths 18-20 admitted to driving drunk. I am sure the number is as high for people who can legally drink.

How many people illegally gamble in their house via poker games, betting pools, and other such nonsense? How many people don't report their taxes to the letter? The average reported internet sales tax in Michigan was like $40 or so. How many people buy things off the internet and don't pay those sales taxes on their state income tax return? How many people make sexually suggestive jokes or comments at work? Have you ever sat inside your car when you pumped gas, ripped the tag off your mattress, burned free music off the internet, or used software from a friend or work? If the government wanted to get someone, they would only have to pry in to 90% of people's lives in this country to find them guilty of some offense that included jailtime.

Laws that everyone breaks are tyranny. Cops don't ever want to solve speeding, then they couldn't catch people and get the fines. Letting people speed is like planting crops. When they need the crop, they will cut the largest ones and let all the littler ones go. This is how all of these other things are.

I am actually rooting for the democrats to filibuster the Patriot Act. We don't need to give the assholes in congress any more power to rape the citizenry at will. Congress people are easily the most hypocritical assholes in the world and it thrills me to death when they are caught being corrupt because every single one of them is. They sit high on their pedastals in judgment of everyone, making dumbass laws for dumbass reasons.

I realize that the opposite of what I say would be to legalize certain things or that I am insinuating that there should be no crime and punishment at all. This is not my position. The problems I have spoken about are a direct result of someone far away trying to rigidly control a large population as best they can. My solution is that people far away should not determine the justice in your own town. Government was meant for a society of 300, not 300 million. My goal in life is to reduce government as much as possible, that's all. It's inefficient and that inefficiency becomes tyranny.

Look at this unbiased report on interracial relationships at the Black Prof. Let's go over two examples-

2&3) The other two controlling images that shaped the experiences of the Black women I interviewed were the belief that Black women are domineering “bitches” and “gold diggers.” Many Black women in interracial relationships felt pressure to carefully monitor their behavior, so they didn’t come off as “the typical Black bitch who doesn’t know her place.” The idea that Black women who marry White men do it for money was also mentioned as a common concern. This affected both how they dealt with their family members and those of their spouses.

Ok, so here we have a white family disapproving of a black woman because of stereotypes. This is because white people are racist.

4) Family approval of interracial relationships is most likely lower for Black women than it is for Black men. Black women’s families had more objections to interracial relationships than their Black male counterparts. Many relatives of Black women (especially male relatives) tried to “protect their daughters/sisters/cousins from White men” who they felt would sexually exploit Black women. Given the history of White male sexual violence against Black women this is not surprising. However, family opposition also has the affect of denying Black women’s agency because their judgment is held up to much more scrutiny than Black men in interracial relationships.

When a black family disapproves because they're protecting their female family member from "White men", then it's "not surprising". It's understandable for black people to be racist, but not white people.

This is the problem with all of the people who study racism. They study racism because they're a liberal apologist and then they skew all facts and findings in favor of anything but non-whites. I mean, isn't it conceivable that we're all the same? White people are as racist as black people and, matter of fact, all groups are equally racist. So instead of doing a report on racism in which you need to blame someone or some group, why don't we study racism as in, "It's a problem every mixed population faces, and the key to understanding it is to realize it's all in your head."

Instead, all we get is blame. Blame, blame, blame. This kind of shit doesn't fix racism, it only puts a happy face on it by making laws to "balance the racism" because -- they justify the minority's racism.

The Bush administration lying about WMD’s as a pretext to a war that he intended to start no matter what- This is completely a moot point because Saddam signed a cease fire agreement and didn't live up to it. Even Hans Blix, who was against invading, said so. Legally, we were in the right, and I think morally we were in the right too. What Bush's motives were or whatever are just inconsequential. It isn't Bush's war, it is America's. They did stretch the truth at times for sure in the lead-up, but it still doesn't change the facts that the burden of proof was on Saddam and he failed repeatedly to cooperate with an agreement he signed himself.

We had a proposal to renovate the library here in the RO that was passed last year and now we reap the benefits- a closed library. For the first time since I was 10 years old, I needed to use the damn library -- only to find out the renovations won't be done until "early 2006". That's a cool deadline because they have like 3 or 4 months in which they could finish.
My goal though is to take better advantage of the library when it opens back up. It's free, sort of...

Ok, so we assign the budget by location and further and further down to the individual. That way the government sends a letter to your town letting them know that they're taxes paid for an art project in South Dakota, and that you as a person, paid for coffee for the staff of the project. Your $11,249 in taxes paid for the coffee.

Obviously everything goes in to a general fund, but it'd be much better if everyone got a letter letting them know so they'd realize how much the government wastes money. One person would get a letter saying, "Your taxes paid for these letters". Awesome. That'd be funny.

This is some bad reasoning, it really is. Now the reasoning I am talking about the politics of greed.

Conservatives believe that economically the best way to divide limited resources amongst people is through a free market. Liberals believe that social programs will do better at filling gaps that the free market doesn't get to.

I think that historically it is pretty clear that the free market creates the most resources per individual and even the worst off in a society like the US is as good or better than the middle class in Cuba. So if conservatives don't want to give their money to the government to help the poor, then why are they considered greedy?

Well this is the bad reasoning. We believe people will get more if we spend the money to someone who has the incentive to maximize their efficiency at making their particular resource. We also believe it's greedy to demand other people's money to fulfill whatever agenda that you feel like.

You see, money is just a basic translation of time (sometimes combined with ingenuity or work or other factors). So what liberals are basically doing is taking your time out of your pocket. Matter of fact, you work until April to pay for their programs that don't even work. So they are in effect serving you a prison sentence of 4 months every single year. This is the REAL greed.

I was just thinking of how Jacque Chirac is a right-winger in his country and how little it matters since he is also a douche bag.

I then thought how little I care about the domestic stances of foreign leaders. Matter of fact, nobody seems to care. I revel in the fact that partisanship has not yet taken place here.

Everywhere else, however, is as politically analyzed as ever. If you take a shit in this country, it must be put in its proper place on the political spectrum. But Tony Blair and his big centralized government? LOVE HIM. Sometimes I get to hate people on both levels like Paul Martin, and like people on both levels, like John Howard.

I also further wonder, what is a right-winger in France? Minus all the fiscal conservatism, non-appeasement attitudes, and christianity, all I really think that is left over is the racism.

Just Voted

So I just voted in the Royal Oak city elections (Est. pop. 60,000 or so). I voted Konczal for Mayor because he is against the biggest issue on the ballot, the tax hike. The incumbent Jim Ellison just wants to raise taxes to fix our budget problems so whether it's federal or local, I vote against THAT guy every time.

There were also 3 city council positions open. I voted for the one incumbent, Ginotti, (I met him once, he is a very sound fiscal conservative) and I voted for Miller and Godek because the other two candidates haven't even lived in Royal Oak that long and Miller and Godek seemed more qualified.

There were a lot of charter changes that are boring. Some of them included renaming the chapters in the charter and others included reducing signatures to be able to become a candidate for city council. I am always behind more democracy so I voted for that one... The clerk also wanted to make the deadline for applying one hour earlier. Must've thought his workload was too much; well don't become the clerk then, fuckface! I voted against his little time reduction.

And of course... I voted against the tax hike. I don't pay property taxes, yet I don't care. My step-dad wanted it real bad but I canceled out his vote anyway. Konczal wants to cut overtime which he says will free up a ton of money, and so I'm for that plan. Our city isn't too crime-ridden or really in desperate need of anything for that matter. I hate cops, fuck 'em!

Well the biggest election in metro Detroit is the Detroit mayoral race. Who's going to win? Hendrix should. If he doesn't, the city is really in for trouble. But he could be a douche bag too. He is a democrat also, so you never know. He'd get my vote simply because he isn't Kwame just like everyone else who is voting for him. Keith Butler for senate next year!

Letter to my State Rep.

Ms. Donigan,

I am a 20 year old college student who lives in Royal Oak. I would like to propose a solution to the window tinting issue that is in the Michigan legislature.

Allow unlimited window tinting, but if a person chooses to do so, they should be required by law to roll down their windows during a traffic stop. This will keep it so the police don't have to worry about their safety and individuals can utilize our right to privacy as much as possible. If someone doesn't roll down their windows, the cop can draw his weapon and the person would be issued an additional fine. I don't see why this couldn't work.

Common sense compromises like this are like a disease to a legislature, so if I could be replied with a bureaucratic explanation to why this isn't possible, that would be awesome.

Oh my, what news! What does this mean? Nothing at all really. People are just upset with him. Big f'n deal. How about people are just upset with reality? We got in to a war that was going to suck for awhile and everyone knew it. Ok it sucks. Now it is time to just stew about it. I could blather on forever but Hatch says it all so much better. This quote really is the best.

Right now, of course, Bush's approval ratings are low, but this will mean nothing in 10 years. It is only natural that they'd be low in the midst of a bold foreign policy that places most of the costs upfront, with the benefits, if we should be fortunate enough for them to transpire, coming later...

...Bush could have done a better job articulating the case for war, but in ten years, regardless of what he did or did not say, actual events will matter most;

Maybe Bush didn't cut spending enough. Maybe he wilted and wanted government to fix all of Katrina's problems after facing much criticism. Maybe he thought he could pick as many battles as he wanted and he realizes he can't. Who knows, who cares? Does it change anything?

After seeing him come back and reading Aaron's inspirational comments about finding the hate for hippies and communists that he knows is inside of me, I think my drought will be over. I am joining the college libertarians at school -- I just don't think the republicans are serious about anything. This brings me to my next point:
The republicans aren't serious about shit. The budget is haywire, they have no regard for getting things done in any sort of efficient manner, and of course they are not downsizing the federal government. GW comes out and wants to fix poverty after Katrina! Yay because I thought his philosophy to fix that stuff was capitalism, but I was wrong-- it turns out the answer was government money! I was wrong about conservatism all these days, wasn't I? Stupid me and my free market! IF a company fails, bail it out! Let the weak survive; it's healthy. Republicans with their corporate welfare and lax principles just piss me off.
Even things like No Child Left Behind are starting to piss me off. I think the premise was good - make schools hold teachers accountable for teaching. It definitely is what the education system in this country needs. But what I don't like is the fact that the federal government mandates all the rules. IS that in the constitution somewhere? Is that a power they should be exercising? I think not and I think that if something like that is a problem, it is the state's problem. As soon as big daddy central government tries to fix everything is when big daddy central government screws everything up. I just don't like someone thousands of miles away telling me how my community school should be run. It is a basic principle of this country that freedom means freedom from a big central power. George Bush seems to only care about wielding the powers and not giving them up like a good conservative should. Am I wrong here people?

Our problem usually includes us not doing enough of case A.
I know that financial aid for school, pell grants, welfare, and all other such things go to poor people. They use the same roads, get the same sewer services, get free public education, and almost every other government handout. You always hear these excuses like corporate subsidies account for much more than this but those people are just being douche bags. One, the majority of this country doesn't see shit from that including wealthy people. Two, those are done for economic reasons so people have jobs or US farmers stay competitive.
The bottomline is that we need to stop relying on the government for everything all the time damn it. It is not their responsibility to take care of your ass, it is your responsibilty. This is really the point. People think the government needs to fix everything. It is inefficient that way. Taking care of yourself is the most efficient way to do things. Figure shit out yourself. It makes society dumber when the government is nanny. No one figures out how to be entrepreneurial in a nanny society. It is like when you're driving to a new place. What do you think will help you remember how to get there again, when you find it yourself or when someone tells you where to go? Of course by yourself. There is no incentive to learn when people just give you the information. Nannyism kills progress. Way to stay on track me!

First day

It is my first day of school again as I enter my 16th year of education. Today I took my brother to school which is exactly his 4th day of education. I had to go back to my elementary school and it was pretty nostalgic.
I used to say I hate school, but I guess I really didn't. It was a good time and still is, especially now that I am taking only major-related courses. Every single class is something I am interested in, yay!

I was reading this link from instapundit and puked in my mouth. It is a defense of Hugh Hewitt's style of journalism which is "subjective" journalism. Yay, I am glad that you have figured out no one can ever be completely objective. So what's the solution? Don't try at all they say! Good point.
It reminds me of this story where kids in school swear so they will let them swear only 5 times a lesson. If small percentage of people are going to do something bad, then why not make it ok for everyone so that they can do the bad thing the right way?If perfection can't be reached, don't strive for it.
That is the moral of Hugh Hewitt and his supporters apparently. It is a sad day when the goal to be objective when dealing with matters of truth-telling is thrown out the window. If Hewitt advocates just some subjective reporting, then ok I don't give a shit. But if he advocates that everyone does it his way, I will turn in my digital voice recorder and notepad right this second.
Holy shit people, we want to be as clear about the truth as we can. We don't need a bunch of propaganda outfits controlling our information day in and day out.
On the the other side of the coin though, people need to accept criticism when they are being biased. I read a "tips for journalists" the other day where a guy says he no longer teaches his journalism students to pay attention to complaints about bias. He claims the issue is so politically charged that it is useless. Well that's healthy then, isn't it? Maybe people have a point you don't want to hear buddy and that is a pretty good excuse to not have to hear it.

Arguing is very fun and very helpful in my opinion. You get a better understand of your own position and other people's. What pisses me off is how personal people take things. Pursuing truth should be the other's goal as well, and you shouldn't take it personally. If you have ideas, then defend them. If someone calls them into question, who gives a shit, you believe them because they are the best ones right? If they're not, you will soon find out and if you're ego isn't the size of the moon, you can accept it and change your views.

I watched the Brothers Grimm and the Upside of Anger. The brothers Grimm was ok and the Upside of Anger was fantastisch! It's set in Detroit, so that's 8 points out of 10 right there. It has a guy who is a dj for the WRIF which has the best morning show ever. The people in the Upside of Anger live in Birmingham or Bloomfield Hills or some shit and I went to downtown Birmingham to see Bruders Grimm coincidentally. I hate the snobs down there. I just hate the atmosphere down there. The third movie isn't worth mentioning.

I think more immigrants are needed because of all the fat and lazy natural borns that we have in this country. Make them compete for jobs with people who actually work hard and appreciate work! We need to always keep the entrepreneurial spirit fresh, it's the most precious resource there is.
As for the differences, I can only theorize. Assimilation. People who are born here have the same fears and misgivings as the population at large.
And as far as giving driver's licenses to illegals... You are a fucking moron if you support that policy. It is the single most retarded issue ever. I can't even believe it is an issue. Just expand immigration quotas please, and really crackdown on illegals. It's easily the most sane policy.

Football season

As Kabo and I are big niners' fans, we will post occasionally our thoughts on the team if we feel the need. I realize anyone who reads this blog cares nothing for football, so you'll just have to ignore it.
One thing that I would like registered is our thoughts about the niners' first round draft pick last year.
A little history first-The niners were the worst team in the league last year because of many problems. We blame mostly the offensive line, coach dumbass, and the secondary that couldn't stop 3rd and 14's all season long. What we both agree the problem was not though was QB Tim Rattay. He was injured for some games but did really spectacular I thought in his debut season.
So having the first pick in the draft, what do the niners do? Well they draft a QB because obviously solving an arguable problem is better than solving definite problems. They then proceeded to blow $49.5 million on an unproven player, Alex Smith, who is replacing a guy who will be a good QB in this league.
Now how did they both do respectively in the first preseason game? Well Smith got the start and was amazing. The whole first half they scored 0 points while he blew all of his drives going 3/9 for a measly 25 yards.
Now when Rattay got in for the second half, he promptly went 6/8 for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns. The niners went on to win the game 21-13 over the Raiders of Shit town.

I am not going to say, "I told you so" just yet but I think it will emerge that this was a complete dumbass move to pick Smith and then cough up a billion dollars for him. Rattay is the real deal, you watch people!

Is it right or wrong to not date someone because of their politics? On one hand, politics is about your core values, and what you think is important about living. On the other hand, there is not much any single dumbass like myself is going to do to change the whole system. Your politics are in effect, powerless, and so you are not really personally going to make widespread systemic changes. There is also a lot of commonground to be found that is not political. The love of reading, or mountain biking, or sailing, or even doing it can all be the central part of your lives together. To refer the power in question to the clause "to provide for common defense and general welfare" would be contrary to the established and consistent rules of interpretation, as rendering the special and careful enumeration of powers which follow the clause nugatory and improper. Such a view of the Constitution would have the effect of giving to Congress a general power of legislation instead of the defined and limited one hitherto understood to belong to them, the terms "common defense and general welfare" embracing every object and act within the purview of a legislative trust. If a general power to construct roads and canals, and to improve the navigation of water courses, with the train of powers incident thereto, be not possessed by Congress, the assent of the States in the mode provided in the bill can not confer the power. No more Indians in championships

Any college with the nickname of a native american tribe or otherwise deemed "hostile and abusive" has been banned from having their mascot show up at the championships. This "hostile and abusive" is strange because in 2002, Sports Illustrated polled the actual native american community and not just the leftist radical whackos that control everything and impose agendas for their own egos. Native Americans are part of our history and we can use them as mascots. We use pioneers, 49ers, the Irish (or celtics), and a millions of other groups of people. I talked with my sister about this. We talked about how textbooks become this box of learning, where when we were in school, couldn't imagine anything but learning anything from one. It teaches you to not think on your own- to always expect someone to break something down and explain things to you. It definitely doesn't encourage creativity and all the little shit teachers try to supplement them with just seems trendy and pointless (whether it's some stupid craft project, or flashcards or anything lame they were taught at some teacher workshop).
Teachers need to start telling stories so that we know we're paying them to do something else than be glorified babysitters. They need to expect much more of their students, not treat them as though they must dumb everything down and go slow in order for them to understand.
I am not totally ripping textbooks. I am ripping textbooks as being the source for almost every piece of information taught in school. I liked my texbooks, I read my history ones like they were novels. English, science, and math though? There is a better way than textbooks for those subjects. Textbooks are a crutch for teachers, schools, and the entire educational process. We need to engage kids more just like that article says. Also we need to worry about content and important things, not social engineering(that goes for the left and the right- Bush's intelligent design plan seems stupid).

My first trip in to the science fiction world

The utter geekdom of futuristic science fiction, which mostly is geeky because of made-up words, has been thrust upon me by some recommendations on instapundit.

I read Moving Mars by Greg Bear which had an interesting character and story and was worth reading. The better one though was a Mote in God's Eye. It is a first contact novel and is done superbly well by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. It is really good even though it is from 1974.

I will probably be reading some more sci-fi including the popular Hitchhiker's series. It will wear on me soon though with the gerplaks and mutars and buckfutters. Anyone got any good fiction recommendations? I might get Bill Maher's book, New Rules because Bill has lately taken a trip to the center (well the left of center) and is less of an ideologue as he used to be. I read a little bit at Costco and it seemed funny. I read Jon Stewart's book and enjoyed it. You can always use the other side's perspective...

The UN needs to change, bottomline. The UN really needs to take the role of the promoter of freedom throughout the globe. All the free countries should make sure the UN does this job, and the US should only be a part of this foreign policy. Going it alone is fine with me when there is such an incompetent organization, but I would rather be isolationist and use the UN as the avenue for world change. That's why it was created, to promote freedom and democracy, not to promote inclusion. I watched a new episode of Six Feet Under and have watched it for the past couple years. Always the crazy libs they are, I have to hear political diatribes (really crazy radical leftists ones) from characters that are puppets for the writers of this show. Well anyway, they made Claire date a guy who was for the war in Iraq and gave a decent argument for it which frustrated her. So now they are producing both sides, you say to yourself, "why isn't he happy about that"? Well the argument basically conceded the corruption that is the US government and stated that shit just happens in order for freedom to take place. Claire cited some memo's that proved Abu Ghraib was ordered from the top and that was conceded. So while they show both "sides", they still take it for granted that Bush is a liar regardless.

I think about this theme all the time. Political cartoons, quotes, and any sort of piece of art is the same thing. You can't use these things as evidence. Those things present ideas, they don't really add weight to an argument. I mean sometimes they can, because you're borrowing credibility from a great mind or an expert, but in most cases, citing a quote from some book isn't a valid piece of evidence in an argument. Art and cliches are meant to inspire, not to answer.

Every person has a viewpoint, whether it be conservative or liberal or whatever. They feel a certain way and have a particular ideology that they argue. John's is that of the "Anti-us." No matter what Clupbert or I say, John does nothing but disagree. Now one may think "well he just has a different viewpoint than you guys," but no, you don't understand. I mean EVERYTHING we say gets retorted by John (though he never actually explains himself so I wouldn't even call it retort).

So this piece from the ifeminists (otherwise known as feminists with common sense and not some radical agenda) explains how hard science research has come in to question.

A review of medical studies published from 1990 to 2003 in three prestigious journals -- the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA and Lancet -- has called the validity of approximately one-third of them into severe question.

Hmm we can't trust hard science research that much because they're getting lazy or whatever else, so how about the soft sciences?

If a relatively 'hard' science (like medicine) has such difficulty with accuracy, then the results offered by the so-called 'soft' sciences (like sociology) should be approached with a high degree of skepticism. This is especially necessary since public policy and laws are often formed by such studies.

THIS SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE TOLD. Sociology should be barely called a science. It is the biggest load of crap in the history of the world. Sociology looks at a particular situation, labels things a certain way and then explains outcomes after the fact. Plus, their understanding of human nature is so poor, it makes me sick. Here is another departing excerpt, where the author of the article states the obvious.

The soft sciences share all these research vulnerabilities. But, because they are less constrained by research controls, the most common answer there to what motives bias may well be "political belief."The foregoing statement will surprise few people. He thanked me in his last post, and I must return the gratitude! Peter's witty spin was always good to read and hopefully he still comments here or guest posts somewhere. I still will keep my eye on conservative Canadian politics through Jarrett and middle-of-the-road Canadian politics from Aaron.

Oh and did you listen Sarah's audio post? You get to hear her voice for the first time "kiddies"! It's weird hearing someone's voice like that for the first time, it's never what you expect. I expected her to sound like a girl, but she actually sounds kind of like a guy... HA, just kidding she has a pretty voice and sometime in the future I will also do an audio post. But I don't feel tired. I just got done reading a book and am not too happy about the book. All I can say is the book is very famous and I was hoodwinked. I half-feel like going in to a rant about late-nights and how they are apart of me, but some things are just better kept to one's self.
I read about great people recently and have concluded that they put so much work in to being great, it's not merely a matter of talent. I know I will never be great because I am not prepared to work that hard and I just don't care, and did I forget the talent thing? I just want to retire early to a ranch with a perfect match.
Reading books makes you romantic, what can I say? And I have been a reading machine lately, that's for sure. It intoxicates you in to daydreaming non-stop. I have such a dual personality between a cold logical realist and being a daydreamer. La la la la la la.

Well I was browsing through Rempelia Prime and saw his link to a blog called bound by gravity and before getting to the point of Peter's link, I found that I have already come to hate the author at bound by gravity. Why, you say? Because he is a douche bag who plays with the word torture. Ok let's begin analyzation of torture. Here is Andrew's moral equivalence take on it:

I don't particularly care if you think that humiliation, intimidation, and sexual assault are valid means of extracting information, the fact remains that they are all forms of torture, and all are equally vile and reprehensible. Trying to justify this sort of thing by pointing to even worse atrocities committed by the enemy is pointless distraction, and is not going to work.

Bold was put in by me to highlight contradictions, how do those two notions jive? Are they worse or are they equal? I am confused. I think he wants to say equal to be a progressive douche bag, but he also wants to say worse because that's the reality of it. Here is an excerpt of Hussein's torture(from the same website that Andrew references a definition of torture) that Andrew says pointing to it would be "pointless distraction".

"One day I was taken to a separate room out of my cell. The guards raised my legs and bared my feet and started beating me with a long stick with a rounded end in which nails were inserted. It's known in Iraq as the 'migwar'.""It was extremely painful. My feet started bleeding heavily. After a while the migwar broke against my feet. One of the nails struck me on my fourth toe. The guards brought some car oil and smeared it on my toe, and then they covered and tied my toe with a piece of cloth. Then they brought a new migwar and continued beating me".

The beating was so severe that the flesh on my right leg broke and the white of my bone was exposed. I had to be hospitalised for recovery".The marks of this physical abuse are still visible on Mohammed Al-Arabiya's legs, even after 30 years. "But the worst thing is that my torturers still walk the streets freely and one of them lives happily as a carpenter. I want these men and the hundreds like them who tortured the people of Iraq brought to justice", he concludes.

Well, I think it is quite important that we can recognize degrees of severity, wouldn't you Andrew? I mean I thought it was only us right-wingers in the states that think in black and white, not someone who is as "progressive" of a conservative as you.
I like when conservatives like Andrew Sullivan and this Andrew bleat on about torture, giving no frame of reference and equating making someone bark like a dog to driving nails through their feet. I think that differentiating between these actions would be "pointless" and stupid.
You don't hear them post everyday about people who wear civilian clothes and confuse themselves with civilians(so innocents get killed), and take the battlefield to civilian's homes(so innocent's get killed), and cut people's heads off, and cut their friend's heads off while they watch, or force confessions and pleas on videotape. I think putting a bra on someone's head damages someone equally as watching their friend's head get sawed off with a knife.
I think these people take it for granted that our record of civility is so much better than our enemies, and this incessant harping is only meant to take some sort of moral high ground in the pursuit of human rights perfection. If you always err on the side of "not hurting anyone" you can never lose this high ground. It is progressive thought at it's peak. They always err on the side of compassion, not matter how ridiculous it is. Any sort of negative action is looked bad upon and frankly it is ruining society. It is the same thing as not punishing kids- progressive retards always err on the side of not inflicting any sort of emotional damage on their children (punishment- same with progressives and criminals) and so the children actually become unhappy and unadjusted so that parents feel good about themselves. This is what progressive garbage is all about, this moral high ground. People would rather feel better about themselves than to face reality and suck it up and do what's right for christ sake.
Look, any US soldier who doesn't abide by US law of prisoner treatment should be prosecuted and they were in the Abu Ghraib case. That doesn't mean we have to put the US in the same category as Hussein or the Nazi's or even use the word "torture" in the same sense.
I want to know what happens if the prisoner refuses to bark like a dog. What if sat there in silence? What is forcing him to do such a thing? If they beat him for not doing it, that, my friends, is torture. Trying to break someone from the vile hatred and wickedness that they were taught should not be torture. Anything where only words are used is not torture, and anything where the prisoner complies isn't torture. Don't want to bark like a dog, don't do it then. How can you force someone to do it?

One more thing about torture. If putting a bra on someone's head or making them bark like a dog or calling a deep muslim man a homosexual is "severe mental torture", then you would have to say that war is severe mental torture. Simply drafting people to be in the bloody mess that is war, is torture because it has been documented much much more that war harms people more psychologically than any of this shit could do. So I say that anyone who has an army is a nation that supports torture. They obviously are willing to use that army for war, and war is worse mental anguish than putting a bra on someone's head, so they are willing to torture their own soldiers and citizens. Let's not get started about the draft which is torture torture torture.
The other day I told my 6 year old brother I was going to play with his toys when he went to bed. I should have been sentenced to jail for mental anguish. I should also be sentenced for flipping some asshole off on the road the other day, picking up my cat and forcing his paw on the window to make my mom laugh outside, teasing anyone and everyone, and all other things that cause even the slightest emotional discomfort. I think it is an appropriate use of the word and comparing my actions to any others would be complete "pointless".

Journalist ethics vs. the law

So this story is really interesting to me. The woman was subpoened to testify who she heard certain information from (reveal her source) and has refused to do so. That is obstruction of justice or is it?
I'm split here because part of me wants to say that she should give up the source. If everytime a prosecutor wanted to get some information, you could claim yourself as a freelance reporter or claim the same freedom of the press that any journalist has. You could also use journalists as crime confidants because they could always use their freedom of the press as an excuse.
The other part of me says that if the press wasn't there, they wouldn't know, and you wouldn't have your information so we have to treat the press differently. They are not involved in the criminal act, so why be concerned with them? It is only taking advantage of the fact that they are digging at the truth.
Matter of fact, I am deciding right now that she did the right thing by going to jail for her journalistic ethics. What a dickhead prosecutor who wants to gig a member of the press on some technicality. We have to give the press freedom to pursue information and this limits that for no particular reason (I don't buy the safety of the public or any of that bullshit).

Political Doldrums

There's just not that much going on in politics right now. O'Connor retired but her replacement being named won't happen at least for another week. Everything else is just kind of blecch. I did see a good article in the National Review today and I will blog about it tomorrow. Hopefully we can get some wind!

On to tomorrow where I will resume my ever-constant oppression of hippies, communists, gays, women, minorities, the domestic and international poor, and last but not least, people who take a drink when they are still chewing. You are the worst mankind has to offer if you do that.

The only way to solve Africa's problems is to stop the corruption but remember Europe and their policy of "leaving countries alone"? Pride in your country

Jarrett Plonka has an excellent post about his divided feelings on his own country. I think it is an interesting topic to think about because countries in the "new world" like the US and Canada don't have any sort of ethnic bind to its citizens. You can only pride yourself on things we all share in common and both of our countries are so big, that you really get such a wide array of terrain so throw out "quiet mountain country" or "the Panama canal" or anything like that. What really binds us is the culture that we create and the ideals that culture upholds. The US is pretty distinctive with individualism, capitalism, awesomnism, and of course awesomnism again. If you don't like capitalism or individualism, then you aren't "proud to be an American". When Democrats (far-left ones) or any other radical lefties accuse us of attacking their patriotism, they should instead own up to it and be like, "yeah, that's right, we don't like this country, we want to change it." That is what their goals really are, and that is what conservatives have to deal with in Canada. I propose a trade. We'll give you 10 million of our biggest moonbats for 10 million of your conservatives, what do you say? Great essay btw, Jarrett.

Ok so my place of occupation is being painted. One of the painters I know because he knows my boss and I have golfed with him. I started to ask him questions. He works only about 30 hours a week, plays handball and goes to the driving range all week and on weekends he golfs. He owns his own little house in Detroit and is pretty much his own boss. Not that much money made, but a comfortable life. I asked him who he voted for, and I was surprised when he replied "Bush". You know the guy isn't rich, he isn't scared of terrorists, he isn't a jesus-freaker, he just wants his own money and his own life. You don't have to be a millionaire to appreciate self-reliance.

Sailing season is on hiatus, my best friend and 5 year old brother goes to bed at 8 pm, work sucks, my girlfriend Scarlett Johansson is off with her career, I can only play so much tennis, and I've commented on all of my blogroll. I'm done with the computer for at least the next 12 minutes. Just kidding, I'm checking my mail from now on and that's it.
My Sony Cybershot DSCW7 7.2 megapixel piece of awesomeness comes this week(after 3 weeks of ordering hassles) so I will get to update my picture and also take a video of the crazy ass lightsaber guy in the apartment complex a couple blocks down. He just comes out at 3 am and lights up his light saber and moves around real slowly.
I also have a bunch of books coming but none of them nonfiction. Sorry I don't care about being a learned man, so sue me. I will also be continuing my movie tear with my new subscription to blockbuster online. Next three are: Harold and Kumar hold up a White Castle, Friday Night Lights, and National Dirty Treasures. My next question to myself is when I will stop blogging about boring shit like my personal life.

In Good Company: Topher Grace has great timing, he just is really funny to me. It was a predictable story though, but Grace being so funny and Johansson being so hot in the movie made it worth it. She really was hot in that movie.

Team America: World Police: This may be one of the lewdest R movies ever. What am I going to say though? I am of the south parker ilk so I loved it. Some people are dicks (me), pussies (john), and assholes (john again). They just do a great job of satirizing an action movie. And of course the music is great. Gotta do a MONTAGE.

The Aviator: I loved it when Hughes told those socialist ass Hepburns off. I also loved how big government is corrupt in the movie and of course the eccentricity of Hughes. Dicaprio is one of the finest and wimpiest actors of our time.

Something the Lord made: Mos Def actually did a great job I thought. It was a good story and I don't know if I believe the whole thing. Nevertheless, it makes you sad about segregation but happy we can turn babies back from the smurf syndrome.

Life Aquatic: This movie was absolutely fantastic. I thought Kate Blanchett was ugly in the Aviator but she was actually quite good looking in this one. All the characters were done so well and it's obvious that Murray can carry a whole movie by himself. Excellent story, unique soundtrack and filmography, funny as hell, and it shows boobs too... ha.

This goes out to everyone's favorite ass clown, John. Ok let's start with a term used for primates.

Sexual dimorphism- characteristic anatomical (and behavioral)
differences between males and females of a species.

Yes this is quite a common trait of primates and is taken right out of my anthropology book last semester, Humankind Emerging by Bernard Campbell and James Loy.

Here is an excerpt from the paragraph explaining it:

Charles Darwin. in his discussion of sexual selection, noted that competition
for mates is unequal between the sexes of most species.

My book even lists the bonds between males-males as "strong" and females-females as
"weak to moderate" in comparisons with other primates. I mean if you make a joke about women being catty towards each other, it is sexist. but apparently anthropologists who study primates recognize bonds between females in the human species as weak. This isn't some outdated old school book. These two guys are crazy liberals. They talk about global warming, the need for environmental harmony, and lot of other modern liberal shit all over the place. The thing is, when it comes to hard science, they can't avoid it all the time. They have to admit that genetic behavior patterns are different between the sexes. And whatever difference there is between genetical behavior and real life behavior, the human species tends to magnify those differences because of cultural evolution, an evolution just as real as genetic. Because culture has become complex, the need for physical evolution decreased because we could do some of it ourselves. Here is an excerpt:

The importance of a cultural way of life cannot be overemphasized. our
reliance on cultural adaptation has set us apart from the other primates.
For better or worse, we are the only living primate species that exerts any
control over its own evolutionary future.

Ok so if I made the statement that I think society should promote women raising children and being home-oriented, and that men should bring home the bacon, it would be considered sexist, no? Well, if evolutionary and culturally, our society has moved that way, then what is sexism?

Ok so a formulaic and oversimplified conception. Now are anthropologists stereotyping women when they say their bonds between themselves are weaker than men? I would have to say that they are. They are painting women with a broad brush. So when I say that women trend toward passiveness or that men trend towards aggressiveness or that males in the human species are more aggressive genetically and then subsequently culturally than females. , this is true but also sexist.
So what we have is basically an obsolete word. You can't generalize at all even though there are definite general patterns recognized by accomplished scholars. The cruz of the situation is this "generalization" theme. We can't generalize is the point of the politically correct asshole. But guess what, generalizing is the first step in conveying meaning. When conveying any idea to someone, you start basic. What do you have in your hands clupbert?

Even that is general. Language is all about generalizations. As long as the speaker of language can realize that we use words to fit objects and not to fit objects to words, then we can generalize all day. So if you call me sexist, then you have to call anthropologists and psychologists sexists. Because they make generalizations about each sex all over the place. And if you are still skeptical that women and men are actually genetically different, then read this book here. It is a common liberal thing to attribute differences between the sexes to "socially constructed gender roles". Sounds nice, but is not true unfortunately.

Property rights eroded

OH my oh my, where is your right to own property? Non-existent, that's where. This decision by the Supreme Court to give cities the power to take people's property and sell it for private uses is a step in the wrong direction. I have a problem with eminent domain in the first place even for public projects like schools, highways, and parks but at least I understand that. This is just getting ridiculous. Cities are really little nazi's that make all the laws they want. My city in california prohibited any flinging, hurling, shooting, or anything of any objects. So much for the second amendment... apparently you can own a gun but shooting it is off limits. Cities do all kind of crazy invasive shit and I hate it and this is just one more thing they can do. They claim it is vital to sell your to private businesses for tax collecting purposes. Why don't we use people as slave labor for tax collecting purposes and a whole bunch of other things.
Seriously I wish I could go back to the writing of the constitution and propose an 11th amendment. The right to own property. "Please, Alex Hamilton, James Madison, please make sure we have the right to own property". In most places you don't have that right. You rent your property from the government in the form of property taxes. You can't buy a house and grow a garden in your backyard and just live, you have to work. You are forced in to having to make money. It's compulsory to work in the greater economic system than live off your own land because you rent it from the government. I hate the following levels of government- federal, state, local. I hate government and my number one goal if I was president would be to downsize it, big time.
