Another book excerpt
Fahrenheit 451 was rather short and so I am done, and I am halfway done with the following. It's a typical fallacy explaining book but he does it in a funny and modern way. The excerpt comes from Jamie Whyte and his book, Crimes Against Logic. Just to let you know,
Jamie Whyte is a past lecturer of philosophy at Cambridge University and winner of Analysis journal's prestigious prize for the best article by a philosopher under 30.
Now for the quote:
Many hold political or religious opinions not because they have any reason to think them true but just because they like the associations There is, for example, a kind of pack-age deal of beliefs for lefty students. They are anti-free trade, pro-environmental protection, in favor of more redistrubition of wealth, a bit feministy (but not as much as they used to be), they think animals have rights, and, though they are not adherents of any established religion, they do have a kind of religious sentiment that inclines them to a bit of waffling on the topic. Why do they hold all these positions? Simply because that is the current lefty package- and aren't all intelligent, concerned young people at least a bit lefty?

I will have to come back here. My favorite South Park episode is "Die Hippie Die." I so wish i could fire a clip of rubber bullets into a crowd of hippies.
We all wish that. I think the national guard could more easily reach their recruiting goals if they advertised that a recruit has a good chance of firing rubber bullets in to crowds of hippies.
