Should I join a party?
I have thought about joining either the libertarian or republican parties and am hesitant because both support some stuff I really don't like. Things I don't like that are part of the official platforms about each party:
What I don't like about Libertarians:
The legalization of all drugs- Legalize marijuana and I really don't care. But heroin and crack is not just simply harming yourself. These people morph in to something else, something desperate and animal-like. They lose their ability to make rational decisions so at that point, they are a danger society because nothing inhibits them, no conscience or anything.
No public education- If you took away public education, many parents would just no send their kids to school. Then when a child turns 18, he/she has no opportunity to make a better person of themself at no fault of their own. Every kid in America should get an education. We just need tough enforcement of things like No Child Left Behind. You can kiss my ass if you don't like standardized tests. They are the best gauge of whether teachers are teaching and if you have a better way please e-mail me.
They're a small piece of shit organization- Libertarians comprise about 1% of the population and their radical stances on drugs and public education make it hard to separate yourself from the party.
Things I don't like about the Republican Party-
Becoming way too big government- Bush has spent a shitload on a whole bunch of unnecessary crap. He wants to just spend spend spend. They also are too moral valuesy. Look the government is not the place that tells us what are values are. Policing the radio and (i bet soon to be the internet) is just retarded. I don't know how you can call something free speech if you can't say it on public airwaves. I don't understand why people just can't turn off their radio. Segments of the patriot act bother me, stay out of my life and the books I read at the library.
Doesn't really do anything- Our taxes are through the roof and they seem to be fine with these 3% cuts like they mean something. Give me a break. Right now they are all afraid of the private investment accounts because only like 35% of the public supports them. Well the other 65% can kiss our ass because its our money. How about I agree never to take money from the general pool and they agree never to take my money? YAY!
Government subsidies- Giving money to corporations to build hall of fames, stupid ass projects, bail out bankruptcies and all that crap is just ridiculous. It's bad for the economy to keep businesses that can thrive on their own afloat. It creates an economy where businesses that do bad business get to stay in business. If Delta airlines went down, who cares? Airlines that do a better job like JetBlue and Spirit will take their place. Come on, FREE MARKET YOU DIPSHITS.
Anti-Immigration- I see republicans as anti-immigration and I hate it. I want immigrants to be able to come here as freely and openly as possible, as long as they do it a certain way. A way that is not so damn bureaucratic as it is now. Immigrants remind the fat lazy democrats that people actually want to make it for themselves and that this country is great. I think they just reenergize America and history has proven they only adopt our values, not change them.
Crime- They are in power a lot and continue to let criminals never serve out their sentences. We really need to give criminals a hard time and privatize prisons. You see a lot of prisons that use the slave labor of prisoners to turn a profit and cost the taxpayers nothing. I am all for this because when you commit a crime, you owe society not only your time, but money as well.
So now that I have broke most of the big things down, i still wonder which I should join. I am leaning republican because I can be libertarian in a lot of ways, but still have the power to get elected if I chose to ran for office some day.
