A hippie conundrum

Oh no, these hippies had a hard choice to make:
In a sort of ecological trade-off, conservationists headed into the Arkansas woods Thursday to kill dozens of trees in hopes of helping the ivory-billed woodpecker, a bird that up until recently was feared extinct.

So they chose to murder dozens of trees for one stupid bird? What kind of ecological trade-off is that? I can't help but hoping that while they are doing this,
The plan calls for killing trees on four, four-acre plots where the woodpecker was sighted.
that they burn the last of the species to death. It would be such sweet justice. Hippies like to play god apparently. In hippieland, no species ever go extinct. I think hippies don't appreciate nature and how it works. The strongest survive. Humans are the strongest and we will do what we wish to the Earth. There is no law that says we have to let trees or other species live. If the environment goes to shit, we'll figure out something then. I doubt it will.
