Are guns scary?

I am not familiar with them at all. Middle class suburbanites usually aren't. Are they scary? Everyone in my family thinks so. Once I move out of the parental units' domicile, I plan on taking a training class and getting one. The other day, a Dearborn man was killed during a robbery of his home. I also think about how much I drive and how every five years, I will run in to some complete nutcase.
