Drinking laws are unfair

I e-mailed my own state senator(Dave Woodward-crazy lefty) asking him why Michigan is completely fucked to 18-20 year olds and his replies involved MADD and the National Government's ransoming of highway monies. Thank god someone in wisconsin is doing something about this.
Here's a good excerpt,

One Wisconsin lawmaker figures if the U.S. military trusts 19-year-olds with a $10 million tank, then the state should trust them with a beer.

Yes, this is the point. We are held liable for all taxes, all laws, and all other responsibilities of all other adults yet they can just decide to bar us from enjoying the benefits of free society. This is the most hypocritical stupid shit in the world and senior citizens and MADD is completely responsible for it. Here is MADD's shitty justification,

The Wisconsin chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving has lobbied against the bill. Its executive director, Kari Kinnard, said statistics show there have been fewer highway fatalities, injuries and other problems associated with alcohol since the mandatory minimum went into effect in the 1980s.She also said research shows the brain has not fully developed until people reach age 21. "It's for their own protection," Kinnard said.

How about you go to hell bitch? Seriously, I heard that a bullet can hinder the brain from fully developing but apparently all you fucks in government have no problem drafting us in the time of war to protect all of you. I signed up for the selective service proudly and would fight just as proudly, but why can't I just have my full rights? The national government is trying not to look like hypocrites by not imposing the drinking age themselves but still drafting 18 and ups. This is so when we say, "hey why do I have to serve in time of war but don't get to drink?", the states and the federal government can point fingers at each other even though the state doesn't have a choice because they won't get millions in federal funding if they don't choose the decision the national government wants. Since no one cares about standing up for 18-20 year old's rights, politicians are ok with screwing us for the highway money. Thank you assholes!
And as for the argument about not fully developed brains, you know the drinking age is lower in almost all of Europe, in Japan, and many others places and it doesn't seem to affect how high their literacy rates, IQ scores, and other such standardized tests are compared to us. This is what should also happen "for our own protection" and because our brains are not developed:

Not held liable for laws as adults.
Not held liable for taxes.
Free candy.

Ok the first two are up there because it is completely unfair to hold us responsible for the bad parts of free society, yet not give us the good parts. The third one is up there because I like candy.

I've always felt the same way; if you can vote, own property and fight in a war then by God you can drink a beer. If you're an adult then you are an ADULT.

The reason Europe has such high test scores and shit is because their students are expected to work in the classroom and are held responsible for their own actions, unlike the students in this country. Alcohol has nothing to do with it.

Hey! A fellow Michigander! One who shares my political views, too! Wow! (Enough! with the exclamation points!) I found you through WCG's link (we go waaaay back) and it's good to find someone I can whine to about Michigan-related stuff -- like the weather and Jennifah G. I grew up in A2 but moved to Plymouth to try to get away from the liberals...

While I agree wholeheartedly, but more on the basis of the government not telling me what to do than anything else.

Fred from Fredoneverything.net offers a little tidbit:

Being able to die in a car crash gives you no indication on your capacity to drive that car drunk.

I don't think that the conclusion drawn from such a glip opinion is correct, but the idea is that an axiom does not a truth make.

God bless Quebec and its dépanneurs.

So enlighten me on which axiom you call in to question, and then maybe I can respond to if in this case, the axiom does a truth make.

Eh, it's just this bit:

"One Wisconsin lawmaker figures if the U.S. military trusts 19-year-olds with a $10 million tank, then the state should trust them with a beer."

It's just that the two things are almost completely unrelated.

A better argument using these same examples might be to say that given that the part of the brain which makes rational decisions isn't fully developed until about 25, it might be more important to have someone capable of making rational decisions if they drive a multi-million dollar war machine than if they drink a light beer.

Don't worry, I sympathize with you, I'm just averse to justifying things with axioms. Just head up to Montreal and go drinking.... it'll be the most fun you'll ever have.

BLAH! The Mommy-State strikes again!

I've been bitching for 20 YEARS (yeah, I'm that old) that if someone is old enough to fight and die for their country, they ought to be considered old enough to drink a beer. If they're too "undeveloped" for beer, what the hell are they doing with guns? Pleeeease.

Found you through the Carnival of the Newbies--the name caught my eye!
How can you NOT click to a blog called "I hate hippies and communists"? LOL

Great blog!
