Outdated Education
Our education system is outdated. My solution for a 21st century system is as follows: Move the legal adult age to 20. Have compulsory junior college. There should be an accelerated learning program where smart kids start public college at 16 and that way when they finish public school, they have a bachelor's degree. This will be maybe the top 10 or 20% and will be done with an SAT type test. Parents do have the option to enroll their kids in this program regardless if they passed the test. Kids whether they passed the test or not will be kicked out of the program if they fail too many classes.
What this does is nationalizes education. The federal gov't will control the college section and therefore we don't invade states' rights and we still have some sort of standard throughout the country. Professions in the new century are not like those of old, people need more education. What this will also do is bring down the prices on medical care and lawyer fees. To become a doctor, you only need the extra money and education that a regular business degree today takes. There will be more people with easy access to these professions and their wages will go down. Let's face it the legal and medical systems are so costly because everyone in them needs to make $150,000. All of the advanced professions will go down. In the regular track program, people can do community college for 2 years past 18 or trade school. Plumbers and carpenters and contractors won't cost as much. Basically today's system allows for these skilled professions (including doctors and lawyers) to charge a lot of money because of limited supply. This leads to inefficiencies that can be worked out with more access to education. Plus the age of 20 will make it so we can make that the universal age for ev everything so people who can die for their country can have all the personal freedoms everyone else has like drinking beer. Let's face it also, 18 year olds are idiots, and we need to prepare people better for adulthood.
