Media Bias sample number "how high can you count?"
Ok, besides the fact that amnesty international is a bunch of idiots, this story I am using as an example of media bias. (From Drudge, btw-sidenote: I love Drudge but hate the pop-ups with a passion) Alright here is the excerpt I would like to point out:
The United States holds about 520 men at Guantanamo, where they are denied rights accorded under international law to prisoners of war. Many have been held without charge for more than three years.Hmmm, what is this "international law" they are referring to? Because this reporter is either a misinformed moron, or he does not know the circumstances surrounding the geneva conventions and terrorists.
We signed a geneva convention treaty that said we were supposed to treat prisoners a certain way but terrorists and unarmed enemy combatants were specifically exempted from that treaty. Later, some countries tried to start another one including them, but we refused to sign.
I mean, I don't want to wax philosophical but law means that we consent to it or that they have some type of authority over us. In this case, I see neither so I will just have to say that this tidbit is a a grade A example of shitty biased reporting.
Media bias is such a hard thing to prove factually, because you can't say, "there are this many slanted facts". So in response to the problem of proving media bias, I will just post it and carve out this river one drop at a time.
