A blow to state's rights

Ben over at the Tiger in Winter has a couple of good links and comments about the decision handed down by supreme court. More importantly, his post focuses on the true defender of the constitution in this case, which is Clarence Thomas and the dissent.
To me, this is simply not an issue for the federal government to decide. Let each state decide the fate of this drug and these lame commerce clause excuses is just a bullshit smokescreen for a social conservative agenda. I know that the social conservatives are the reason conservatives run this country right now, but are they just turning in to a big central government themselves? Come on the purpose of taking power is to relinquish it, can we see a little bit more of that please.
And let's replace Rehnquist with Thomas. My number one goal for this modern American government is to downsize it, starting with Washington. Isn't that the single most binding and important conservative principle?
